Ethics Codes

Max Meyerson mm603815@ohio.edu Ethics and morality are two separate issues. Too often we as a society mix the two terms up. Ethics involves a process of decision making during a high pressure situation. Morality is the inner humanity you have and what your conscious says to you in those tight pressure moments. Sometimes the answer ends up being the same, but often they are not the same. Even some ethical codes are different from other ethical codes. In our last class we talked about all different kinds of ethical codes. including,   SPJ Ethics Code, RTNDA Ethics Code, ASNE Ethics Code, NPPA Ethics Code, AAF Ethics Code, PRSA Ethics Code, and ONA Ethics Code. Rod Colon Speech Review/Reaction

Max Meyerson mm603815@ohio.edu Rod Colon came to speak to our class on September 10th 2019. I thought Rod did an excellent job of captivating the audience with his enthusiasm and energy. His infectious smile and up beat disposition was a treat for our entire class. He got all of us involved by asking us questions. He tried to personalize the speech by taking individual members of the classroom and putting them in situations where they have to be their own CEO. Rod Colon entire speech was oriented around the idea of being the boss of your own brand. By this Rod means that we need to be in charge of ourselves and what value we can bring to business in our field. We need to be constantly trying to further ourselves in our fields by taking accountability for what we do. We must put ourselves first and ask what can we do to better or position. Value of Journalism

Max Meyerson mm603815@ohio.edu What does journalism truly bring to the table? Do journalists just cover events and stories and report them to the public? Do they control the narrative and slant stories toward their preferred side? What do journalists actually do? During class we went over this very issue. Many of us said that journalists cover the news. We said that they can provide entertainment. We said they were a beacon for advertising and public relations. We talked about how journalism can be a channel for communication about a variety of different issues. We talked about how journalism connects different parts of the world. Some articles can reach far across the world and can inform people about things they could have never expereinced. Finally we talked about how journalists can be like the watchdogs of society. Why People Hate The Media

Max Meyerson mm603815@ohio.edu Somewhere along the way in American society, the term "truth" lost its value. Truth's stock is somewhere next to Tesla at this point. So far what we have learned from the readings and from our class is that truth doesn't have any overarching value on what we do in the media. Sure truth is part of what we do but, it is not our main goal. Based on utilitarianism the good of the people comes before truth. After Donald Trump's presidential campaign in 2016, the term, "Fake News" has spread into mainstream lingo. The feeling is that most of the citizens of America are on bad terms with the media however, Indra A.R.
