This weeks readings consisted of articles discussing the ongoing war for reliable news media. After Donald Trump's presidential campaign in 2016, the term, "Fake News" has spread into mainstream lingo. The feeling is that most of the citizens of America are on bad terms with the media however, Indra A.R. Lakshmanan wrote an article that would disagree. https://www.poynter.org/ethics-trust/2018/finally-some-good-news-trust-in-news-is-up-especially-for-local-media/ In this article Lakshmanan did a survey and found that people do still trust the media especially local media. However I would be hesitant to trust the local media more than the national media because a lot of their content is dropped down from the corporate heads. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxtkvG1JnPk In this video the Sinclair Broadcast group is outed for playing a repeat message about this very subject. Although the numbers say that the American public trusts local media, if more scandals like this arise it could ruin that trust. The truth is I look at all media as untrustworthy until I can gather enough evidence to deem it reliable. That is the way most of us should approach media.
